About the Project
The U-Haul located along Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood turns an abandoned former rail yard into a useful, new storage facility along the Conrail tracks, which have become notorious as a symbol of the nation’s opioid epidemic. The 27,000 SF footprint provides storage on seven levels. The building is constructed on a bulkhead wall erected in the mid-1800s to hold the freight trains above and vehicle traffic below. Also on the first floor are truck bays for vehicle rentals and drop-off.
